New skill gained,

old skill lost.

I've sorta learnt to ride a motorcyle in the last 3 years. Today, to my shock and horror, I discovered that this new skill has come at a high price.

Geoff needed a "little push" to get Kellan's Dakar going as it had no clutch after a little mishap earlier in the day. I volunteered without a second thought, I was quite good at athletics during my school days after all Wink.

Little did I know what would follow. As I pushed and the bike got up to speed the motor rather suddenly tranferred power to the back wheel. The bike rapidly accelerated and I couldn't keep up and uhm, completely lost my balance.Wham! I bit the dust - ok, actually the very abrasive gravel road.

I now have first hand experience what ATGATT is all about!

Warning: sensitive readers Page Down and do not look.

Thanks to the excellent medical attention I received on the scene from Drs Montgomery (H2O) and Dunn (gauze dressing and surgical glove) I will most likely make a full recovery.

I've been advised to stay home for a few days as the more severely injured right hand heals. As can be seen in the photo above there is significant tissue damage in the lower palm area. Consequently I'll not be able to use a mouse for a while.

PS my GP has confirmed that I've indeed lost the ability to run and maintain balance. A small price to pay for my newly acquired very basic bike riding skills Laughing.

PPS  It was a wonderful weekend in Sutherland!

Until next time ...

Geoff

no worries! I've always been a bit clumsy, un-coordinated and accident prone.

Next time I'll wear ATGATT - including my gloves Laughing.

Glad you managed to pilot the Dakar home safely.

Come now Tony

Tony, I have say I am a little dissappointed, what no statistical data on your injuries??
27% loss of skin on left hand or something??
1 out 24987 chance of falling whilst pusing a motorbike pretending to relive you glory days as a runner??
Hahahaha,

Glad your hands are still operational!

John,

on the spots where the skin got ripped off there is 100% skin loss Tongue out.

As to the chance of this occurring, well with me involved anything can (and usually does) happen, so I'd say the probability is high. Statistically about 70% probability with a standard deviation of 7.5%

I'll hand it to you Tony!

I'll hand it to you Tony (pun intended!) you managed to do a pretty good job - I think Adrian's formula is the best  - well it's the one that I can understand! I hope they heal quickly - just a thought - is your tetanus up to date?
