Baviaanskloof

Baviaans by two

WarrenParker's picture

This report covers a five day ride in March 2013 from Cape Town to Baviaans over a variety of roads – myself on a R1200 GS and my son, Jethro, on a KLR 650.

Last minute work and preparations led to an afternoon start with a firm plan to end up in Calitzdorp for the night, but looser ideas on how to get there.

Slaap by Boetie en Henriette Terblanche in Aalwynbak grot. Vat die pad deur Baviaans en dan was die plan redelik oop totdat ek vir Magda (vroulief) weer by PE lughawe aflaai en my pad terug maak deur die Transkei na Westbrook.

Baviaanskloof tripreport

The Real karoo experience

Gerhard's picture
We recently conducted a trip (as per the initial invitation on the forum) to the Great Karoo. It was to be a reconnaisance trip for future rides. Apart from the initial detour through Gamkaskloof and Baviaanskloof, our aim was to focus mainly on a very specific area of the central Great Karoo. Our purpose was to ride as many backroads and private tracks & trails as possible, to explore biking opportunities in the area, discover some of the hidden secrets and meet real Karoo people and their hospitality. So, we did just that and after a wonderful 9 days it was agreed that this should be an annual event with more frequent trips to this area if possible.

Baviaanskloof naweek
