Please post gpx/gdb file with routing to Ruslamere.

Those that can load it onto their GPS and follow the route can then go straight "past begin" onto the intermediate course.

Those that get lost can try again the following week. Tongue out

Apart for an extremely brief intro on just what your GPS receiver actually is and how it does it, we will use live onscreen demosntrations projected on the big screen to go step by step through the  GPS operations and demystify this wonderful intuitive tool once and for all.

If you have a laptop, USB data  cable and your own GPS, bring all these with you together with your own power extension lead so you can follow along as THE VERY BESTEST OPTION.

If you have a GPS bring it along, and follow each step.

If you have no GPS you'll still learn loads of interesting practical stuff about these gadgets.

This is a club initiative and no marketing of units will be done.

Looking forward to seeing you

Looking forward to seeing you all this evening.

Don't forget to bring along your charged GPS unit.

Don't worry if it is not a NUVI or ZUMO.

If you have a flash drive bring it along and save the tutorial file

No long technical stuff, just a brief intro on how your receiver receives signals so you iunderstand why open skies are important to reception.

I found this talk very

I found this talk very informative as I know the square root of zero about GPS's. I am so sorry that I had to leave early.

Thanks Andy, Pete and Russel.  Russlemere is a brilliant venue.

Dankie baie

Thanks Andy for sharing some of your knowledge about the GPS', Pete for setting it up and Russ for letting us take over one of your rooms for the evening. I'm afraid 'bob o'clock' arrived before you'd finished and I had to leave early.

GPS evening

Thanks Andy and Pete for your time and effort and Russell for the venue.

You guys clarified many things regarding the efficient use of the GPS.  I now love my GPS even more, knowing the full potential of what it is capable of.  Strangely, three hours seemed too short a time to cover everything, an evening very well spent.

sorry I couldn't make.

Ended up working late - and it seemed pointless to post on this thread at such a late hour.

Profuse apologies. this is like the 2nd GPS evening I've missed.

Thanks Andy, Pete and Russ

We had a very informative evening as Andy introduced everyone to Zen and the Art of Routing by GPS.

Some very useful tips/insights

- make sure you have the same map version on both your PC/laptop and GPS

- make sure set to "Auto Routing" is off on the GPS

- use lots of named Waypoints to "annotate" your routes

- build a library of Waypoints as you criss-cross our beautiful country

THANKS FOR A GOOD EVENING

Thanks to everyone who attended, for all the interaction and questions.

Attached find a document on the technicalities of how a GPS came about

A short .ppt tutorial

a file with all my waypoints that will be relevant to you.

You can save to your Mapsource, then simply delete the waypoints you will never need or do not apply to your life.

Ok, for some reason there is no attachment icon, so will have tow ait for Cloud or Badger to give clues
