BMW Club Ride 15th January 2012

Ride Captain: Max Lange, 084 8009292

Ride: Greyton; Abbey Rose

Brief

This is a fairly long ride around 180km one way, thus we will depart a little earlier than usual at 07:30am.

From the starting point we will make our way to Kuils River via the N1 and Old Oak road. From here we branch off onto the R102 and make our way to Somerset West, the route is a bit slower but more interesting. Continuing through Somerset West, turning right towards Gordons Bay onto the R44 towards Kleinmond and back to the N2. We then branch off the N2 at the R102 which takes us to Greyton.

The route back will be via Villiersdorp and Franschoek approximately 190km.

We will re-group as and when required, depending on the size of the group, however we will regroup after every pass.

Please take it easy over the passes and faster riders only overtake on the right. Slower riders please be aware, hold your line where required but allow faster riders to pass easily over the passes.

We will stop for Breakfast at the Abbey Rose in Greyton

Estimated ride time is approximately 2.5 hours depending on group size

I will also be going

And for those that want to, we can look for some dirty roads to take home.

Ride report

23 bikes, 24 riders and 2 followed in a cage. In an effort to stay of the highways we followed a route through Kuils River on R102 towards Somerset West, little slow and some stop start but did not delay us too much. From there on the R44 via Gordons Bay, with not too much traffic and light breeze the pass was great. Then through RooiElse and Kleinmond back to the N2 and finally on the home stretch towards Greyton. The staff at Abbey Rose were ready for us with some coffee and service was swift. For the return trip, Warren led a small off-road group, some who had to get straight back took the quickest route via the N2 and the remaining 5 followed me back via Villiersdorp and Franschoek. Thanks to Warren for assisting with the sweeping duties and I trust all who participated had a great ride.

Thanks Max

An enjoyable ride, good breakfast and good company.

Six of us explored some dirts roads on the way home, and there are some stunning dirt roads in that area.

We got home at about 2, very hot, so Trevor invited us all to his house where and we all bailed into the pool. What a way to end the day.
