Cape overnight, off road ride to the Biedouw Valley, including a night ride, and home via Wuppertal

We are planning an overnight ride to the Biedouw Valley for the weekend of 25 to 26 February 2012.

The weekend will consist of a fairly direct route there, an afternoon spent relaxing and swimming at the pools and then a 60km night drive (in pairs) down to the Doring River.  Then home on Sunday via everyone’s “must do” route of Wupperthal, Esel Bank, the Cederberg Oasis and Ceres. So a full action packed weekend with plenty of riding and awesome scenery.

The night ride: I have twice now had to do a night ride, and the experience was both surreal and exhilarating, something I think we should all experience.  I think the Biedouw Valley offers a safe environment to try this if it is your first time.

The ride home will unfortunately not suit absolute novices. There is a few hundred meters of sand on the way home and the rest of the route is mostly twee spoor with some pebbles and fairly steep accents and descents at each end. Search the forum for details of other rides that have taken place in this wonder world if you are uncertain.

Accommodation options as follows:

  1. Camping in your own tent or under the stars on shaded lawns
  2. House accommodation as follows, in 6 rooms:
  • 1 Double bed, 2 single beds, on suite bathroom
  • 1 Double bed
  • 1 Double bed, 1 single bed
  • 1 Double bed, 2 single beds
  • 2 single beds
  • 2 single beds

Due to the nature of the usual make up of our rides, double beds will be treated as singles for folks sharing rooms if need be. If you are booking as a single for a bed, please expect to have to share.

There are decent ablutions, consisting of two bathrooms for those who stay inside the house besides the room with the on suite and separate ablutions outside the house with two showers and two toilets for both men and women.

We will once again “self cater” for Saturday and so you will need to plan and make you own food for lunch and supper, however we will be provided with coffee and tea, “biskuit” and muffins for breakfast on Sunday and we will stop for a bite at the Cederberg Oasis on the way back home.

The trip will be accompanied by a back up vehicle and trailer as usual for peace of mind and also to carry small bags and tents etc if need be. Please note the vehicle will not follow us between the Biedouw and Matjiesrivier but will have to go around on the home journey and meet us at the Oasis for lunch.

Costs :

Camping - R230.00 per person which includes camping accommodation, breakfast, and a contribution to the backup vehicle and crew.

House  - R300.00 per person which includes housing accommodation, breakfast, and a contribution to the backup vehicle and crew.

Interested in joining us? Drop me a mail at warrene@savino.co.za  or post to this thread using your real name and I will be in touch. We will need to limit this ride to around 20 motorcycles in total, so basically 17 excluding the “crew”.
