BMWMCC Breakfast Run with a difference - 10 March 2012 - final arrangements added
Our club has been invited to attend the annual NG Kerk “Fontuin Fees” in Piketberg on Saturday the 10th March 2012.
It will basically be a breakfast run, but with a slight difference.
We will begin by taking an all tar ride directly to Piketberg, in a few different groups if need be (depending on numbers), and will enjoy a hearty farmers breakfast for the princely sum of R45.00 all in at about 08H30, so we will need to depart by 07H30.
While we are eating etc, our bikes, which will be parked in a separate secure parking area under guard, will be on display for the public to have a look at. We will also have a secure trailer as we did at the Toy Run where everyone can leave their kit etc.
After breakfast we can spend a little time and have a look around the festival, there are all the different stalls selling all sorts of goodies, some local talent performing in the tea garden, and there are a few of the local cellars hosting wine tasting and sales as well. The invite read as follows:
“NG kerk hou op Saterdag 10 Maart hulle jaarlikse bazaar en dit is regtig baie lekker en groot, tiepiese plattelandse kuier en lekker, baie eet goed, tuisgemaakte goed ens”
After breakfast and a look around, there will be various options to get home including an all tar route led by Max Lange or an off road route led by me which will go up to Piket Bo Berg and down the other side on the old dirt pass, a fantastic old road we recently reccied, or you can just go home at your own speed, entirely up to you. The idea would be for everyone to be home just after lunch.
We need to give some indication of numbers for breakfast to the organizers, so please post to this thread if you intend going with your option of dirt or tar please.
Should be a fun day out.
Thanks Warren. Sound great. I will attend.
Please put Andre Barnard also on the list.

Been on the forum since 2 Feb
I would love to join. Not so sure about the wife though. I think she has got some thing on that day. Looking forward to it.
HI Warren,
Etha and I would like to go. On tar.
Thanks
My wife and myself would like to join. By tar.
Thanks
Me please - on dirt
I recently went down the described pass with a pillion. No serious stuff at all, some loose stones and furrows in places, very short stretches of sand and few drop offs. I did find it necessary to drop my tire pressures though so a slower ride back to Piketberg to pump them was needed, about 20 min riding if I remember correctly. A can do for for most riders, infact a must do! A lovely pass hidden away. Great stuff Warren for your route!
Ater
Please add Francois dirt route
Cheers
I would be on tar, Obviously
Wife and myself will join,
Thanks
Hi Warren,
Add me to the 'dirt' group please?
regards
Add me to the list please.
plus free bump
Hi Warren,
Please add me to the dirt group!
Thanks!
Craig
We will meet at the usual Engen Wimpy in Plattekloof at around 07H00, a short briefing will be held at 07H20 and we will depart as one big group at 07H30.
We will travel directly to Piketberg and meet with the organizers at 08H30 at the Total garage next to the N7. We will also be joined by the Vintage Car Club of SA. From there will will be taken on a ride through the town, ending at the Church grounds where we will have breakfast.
After the meal you will have an opportunity to have a look around the festival for a spell.
Then Max will lead a tar ride home, I will lead an dirt ride home or you are most welcome to do your own thing.
So far we have about 28 people on 26 bikes who have indicated that they will be joining the breakfast ride.
Weather looks pleasant for the weekend.
Well it looks like the Versfeld clan (those left in Cape Town) will be going thru by car.... so we will probably see you there! Taking the parents on a trip and then to Versfeld Pass :).... Just a little trip back in time to when the ancestors lived there..... ride safe everyone!
I'm brining a friend with a RT with. So add one more bike and person.
Hi Warren,
Sorry to do this to you...but I will have to cancel on the Piketberg Breakfast run. There seems to be 'run out' on my front rim and I would like to get this fixed before our Witteberg weekend.
I feel a heavy vibration above 120km/h.
sorry again...
Hi Warren,
I have found a guy in Durbanville (via John Carr) who can help me with this. Hopefully it will be ready in time for our Witteberg weekend....otherwise I'll have to borrow the wife's bike...
Thank you to everyone who attended the Fontein Fees in Piketberg this past Saturday.
We were easily the best represented club there at 40 bikes.
I thought the organisers did a sterling job with only a few folks having something to grumble about in terms of their breakfast and there was a nice atmosphere there as well. I had to tell Charmaine it was a tad early for dancing at 08H45 on a Saturday morning (maybe I'm just getting old).
I must appologise for some folks missing the different rides home. We will need to look at some better planning next time, but I trust you all enjoyed your morning out on the bikes anyway.
The dirties went up to Piket Bo Berg and down on the old pass on the Goedverwaght side, a stunning little piece of adventure bike road, then followed some more well known dirt roads towards Moorreesberg and Malmesbury, ending with a bite at the Barrel Pub near Richwood. Sorry also that we lost Tony and Neville in Malmesbury, trust you guys got home safely.
And last but not least, thanks to John Geldenhuys and Hillary for taking the trip in their car towing a trailer which meant none of us had to cart kit around while at the fees. Much appreciated John and I heard some of the Harley manne discussing how spoilt we are. I prefer organised, but anyway.
there and back.
Yup, we got home safely. Malmesbury are close enough to D'ville, so we knows those roads.
Assume the rest went via Kalbaskraal?
Echo the thanks to John and Hillary.
Thanks Guys for a great ride. This was surely a breakfast run of a differance. Warren, thanks for explaining the whole "turtle" story to me.
“No problem any beginner can do it”.
Rest and let the nerves calm down. O LORD tar this road for me!!
Ek moet mooi ry want met A op my hakke weet ek by die volgende stop gaan hy my vertel wat ek verkeerd doen, want ek mos alleen op die fiets sonder kommunikasie, net ek en my wiele. Met als wat so maal deur my kop gaan ons deur 'n boer se grond en ek sien 'n sloot, vat die draai te wyd en gaan sommer reguit oor die pad, deur die slootjie maar bly regop, so gehoop A sien dit nie. Tuis het ons lekker gelag toe ek agter kom hy was bewus daarvan.
Praying again? no taking picture of a mushroom. (Bekruip die paddastoel)
Thanx Guys and Dolls for let me feel at home and for the eventfull day!!
Marinda.
