BMW MCCC Beginners "Off Road" Ride: Sunday 8 July 2012: List added
All Off Road Beginners,
Join Neels & PeterO on Sunday 8 July 2012 on this club ride that will specifically suite rank beginners wanting to practise those newly learned Off Road Riding techniques and gain confidence in going off the beaten track.
The route will be along regularly used "good" dirt roads and the pace will be relaxed in order to give all participants a chance to be comfortable and ride within their own capabilities.
Due to the unpredictability of the weather we will have more than one route planned, but the round trip should be between 250-300km.
The idea would be to have breakfast at the departure point and snacks along the route. However, final arrangements regarding breakfast, lunch and departure point will be communicated once the route has been finalized.
There is no cost for this ride and there will be no back-up vehicle. Preference to club members.
Interested??
Email me at neelscjw@telkomsa.net or post to this thread stating your real name (and an email address) please.
Final communication for this trip will be communicated via e-mail to participants booked.
Looking forward.
Regards

Hi Everybody,

Rendezvous: We will get together at Donford Motorrad. Don has kindly offered to provide us with a full breakfast @ R60.00 pp. Note: Please urgently reply to me if you will be having breakfast as I need to confirm numbers before close of business today.
Time: 08h30- Arrive at Donford
08h30-09h15 Breakfast
09h15- Ride Briefing
09h30- Depart
Please ensure that you are ATGATT en fueled at 09h15. Also ensure that you have enough water and some nibbles for the ride. There will be no official lunch stop.
That is it from my side.....from you folks I need confirmation of your attendance and if you are having breakfast.
Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday.
Regards
Sorry I did not receive any confirmation until this arrived. Will still join you for the ride and participate in Breakfast if possible.
Just need and address for Donford Moterrad to find you. Thanks.
Donford Motorrad is on the corner of the R44 / Webers Vallay road, Stellenbosch
just past Techno Park, opposite the Stellenbosch Golf Club
Dinkie manne het bietjie nat gekry vandag?
Bietjie nat?
No, it wasn't so bad, there's a small patch on my one elbow where I'm still dry!
All in all, we had a super ride: once the humming-and-harring about whether we should go or not came to an end, the group decided to go for an 'all-tar' ride, as torrential rain was forecast on the sandy route planned, and the alternate route promised 'snot-glad' clay, neither option great for rank-beginners.
After a hearty breakfast from Don we left Stellenbosch for Houwhoek, but once there we found sunny weather, so on to the dirt it was!
And it was all it promised to be; stony, dusty and muddy in places - excellent!
The ride back was not according to plan.
We had a break in Greyton and headed home via Caledon where the group split. Some might have dodged the rain on the way back but not me! Neels and I caught some decent rain from Tweewaters all the way home. Mist on the top of Sir Lowry's Pass made sure we experienced every weather condition in one day!
Thanks Neels and Pete - I'll do it again anytime!
Oh, I forgot to mention the wind! It blew at times so strong, at one stage we had to lean to the right on a left bend just to stay up!
Quite hectic - definitely windier than wet, and it poured!
We were going.......then we were not ...... then we did!!
Eish!!! what a day it turned out to be. From early morning calls from a concerned John Carr and Pete O, to everybody actually pitching at Donford Motorrad for breakfast, to sunshine over the picturesque Overberg landscapes, to gailforce winds and treacherous rain in die Kaap van storms.
Thank you to everybody who braved the early morning weather conditions, all be it just to be polite. It was highly appreciated. To the honest and "clever" guys...hope that Don's breakfast made it worth your while getting up so early. Thanks Don, the breakfast was great. To the brave and "not so clever" guys and girls who went further, I hope the fact that we actually went off road, made your day.
Morne (mr GoPro) definately not slow....hope to see some of your footage on this thread. Lizelle, seker jy stem saam dat die off road gedeelte baie lekkerder was as die teerpad huistoe.....oops!! Behalwe dalk vir die modder patch. Jacques, hoop jou dag was opwindend saam met die BMW's. Thank you, Pete, for the proffessional wake-up call this morning, for sweeping the group and assisting with the arrangements for this day. Rick, thank you for sticking it out with me through mist, wind and rain. Glad I was not alone going over Sir Lowry's Pass...we only missed out on snow. Last, but not least: Thank you Anna-Marie for escorting us all the way to Botriver just to take a beating from die Kaap van Storms on your way back home, solo. Surely the Port @ Dassiesfontein was enjoyed thoroughly before returning home.
I trust you all got home safely.
That's it from my side .......now to get all the gear dry again for the next ride.
Wow Neels , good stuff . Man I do miss the club
cheers
Hi Neels,
Ek kon niks voor my sien nie, maar my man het my veilig daaroor. Weet nie hoe nie!!!
Hoop ons kan weer saam julle ry!
Ek post net-nou 'n paar pics.
Tot volgende keer!!!
Thanks, Neels - an excellent breakfast at Donford. Glad you guys got to see some dirt in the end!
