Thank you - BMW MCC West Coast GS Crayfish Weekend-26 to 28 November
Time to visit Jurg again for his legendary "CRAYFISH" weekend. A visit to the West Coast and the legendary Jurg and his "Kaya" on the beach 40kms from Groenrivier has become one of the "must do" off road outings of our Club.
This visit just as summer arrives and Crayfish season opens will have the normal amount of thrills and spills as we tackle our friend Mr. Sand and meet the very friendly West Coast Estate agents that are dieing to sell us a plot of land or two.
Jurg will as always supply a very good dose of his exclusive West Coast hospitality, his delicious food (including lots of Crayfish), our very rustic accommodation and our mattresses.
Our ride will see us departing from Cape Town on Friday 26th November heading via the Swartland and possibly the Sandveld as we head for Vanrhynsdorp and the famous Pizza Pub called Phuchifino.
Here we enjoy lunch before pushing on to Bitterfontein where we branch off towards Kotzesrus and the Coast where Jurg and his Kaya await us. Arriving early evening. Saturday see's us again tackling the sand as we head via the farm roads to Garies and lunch in the old fashioned style....no rush as time stands still in Garies. After lunch we head back to the Kaya via Kotzesrus and back to the ever beckoning Kaya. Saturday night is full of hilarity and Jurg is sure to keep us all entertained with his limitless stories. Not to forget his very able assistant " Buurman" who is an old Skollie biker who has many a scar to prove it. Here the days activities will be discussed for hours as well as the comparing of purchases to see who bought the best plot. Sunday see's us heading along the Coast towards the Elandsbay Hotel where we have lunch before the final push through to the Vlakvarkgat Bush pub where we say our good byes and head for home.
Round trip is approx 1200kms. Cost R920.00 per person which includes the following : Pre trip get together at my house including snacks and an open bar (2 weeks before we depart). Back up vehicle to carry your bags plus tow Club 3 bike trailer. Friday night dinner, Saturday morning breakfast, Saturday night dinner (Crayfish), Sunday morning breakfast & Sunday lunch at Elandsbay Hotel. Excluded is Friday breakfast at the Wimpy, friday Lunch and Saturday lunch.
What must you bring? You, your bike, your very small overnight bag Your sleeping bag and pillow. Your "dop" & a plastic glass. Loads of good humour will also ensure a great weekend.

In a fit of 'what the hell, gotta face it sometime', please put me on the seriously tentative list, and yes, I'll take all the lessons anyone can offer.. (Charles, you once said something about Atlantis?)
During the beginners gravel of last month (Paarl) I've found my tyres are pretty good at (literally) getting me out of holes..
Now'd be a good time to try land purchases..
Still a few places left!!!
Very ready for this... Can't wait!!! Might have to install an aircon before we go though...
Hi Geoff
Please ad my name to the list ,sounds like a great ride.

I certainly hope someone takes the ride - heck I'll even give R200 towards your ride, but that much money to forfeit for my getting flu this week.. eish!
C'mon someone, don't you want to ride up the Weskus and eat crayfish?
alas.. enjoy the ride folk..
so no-one wants to take the day off tomorrow and float up the coast with Geoff and the lads??
sure coulda done with that $$$ back...
My sincere thanks to you all for really making this a fantastic weekend up the magical West Coast with an unforgettable group of people. Thanks Also to Jurg and his band of "merry" men who kept us fed and entertained the entire weekend.
A special thanks to all of you who helped us to encourage the less experienced members of the group as they grappled to conquer their demons and the notorious "SAND MONSTER"!
To each and every one I salute you for really making this another unforgettable outing with YOUR Club!
To those that were able to stay up late on Saturday night I am sure you still have aching muscles from laughing at all the jokes that Jurg, Neels and others told.
A huge thanks to James (Gauteng) and Neil (Eastern Cape) for coming all the way to CT to join us on one of the real Tour "highlights" of the year.
Also to Jacques and James (Gauteng) for the help given in fixing the 2 punctures that we had along the way.
To those of us that bought plots (plenty) I encourage you to get them registered quickly. To those with aching bodies and bones this morning (especially Nicky) I hope you are feeling better soon. I also hope that the slightly damaged bikes (2) are repaired quickly.
You can all be proud of your achievements as the Sand was probably the worst I have encountered along the Route.
Thanks also go to Noelene and DuToit for driving the back up vehicle.
To those who just "chilled" on Saturday I hope you had fun at the Khaya.
I hope that one of you will be writing a trip report and if you will let me know who I will ensure that all the pics are sent to you or you can just add them onto the trip report. It certainly was a trip that needs a report.

Thanks to all for making the weekend amazing and special thanks to Geoff and Noelene for giving me a no-sand, return trip.
I am on a Brufen diet and will be going to a chiropractor today. He will hopefully be able to restore me to my former height, as I have the sneaking suspicion that I might be 2 cm shorter after falling on my head.
Good advice for those of you that do not wear or own a neck brace, I promise you it is the best and most essential investment in bike riding gear I ever made!!!!!!!!
I will be back on the trip somewhere in the distant future, but only after much more experience, being fitter and after taking up a few gymnastic classes to ensure more gracious movements during the landing process and to hopefully help me to land on my feet.
And yes, Geoff and Philip, you were right, I should have stayed off the bike in the wind!
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you want to lease one of my West Coast properties, there are various ones to choose from!
I know there are various opinions of what the GS stands for regarding sand, but I am now 100% certain what the F stands for on the 800 GS with regards to the sand monster!
Sorry to hear about this, Nicky - hope you regain your former stature quickly. And thanks for the encouragement on Friday before I headed for the exit. It sounds like you ran into some serious sand later on, so probably just as well I did.
Stephen
Mr.Badger went for his 140 000km service yesterday. Even though I had fitted clean filter just days before the West Coast trip, Andrew King reported that he had to clean my filter twice it was so full of caked mud and sand.
I suggest you check your filters and wash your bikes thoroughly.
Dear Geoff and fellow riders
Well, just a short note to thank you all for a very nice and unforgettable birthday I had on the Cray-Fish-run.
Just for the record, my round trip milage was 4,388 km. I suppose the most you have for this run so far. I have decided to give up my option on the plots I had as I have had the “straf dop”.
I missed greeting Jurg on Sunday morning, so please convey my thanks for the very good meals and entertainment he and his team supplied.
Once again, just thanks to you all and Philip, thank you for the invitation.
Regards
Gravel Hunter
