BMW MCC Cape Dual and invitational Breakfast Ride, 18 December 2011. The last ride for 2011.
John Geldenhuys and I are planning the last breakfast ride for 2011 to the Festa Restaurant at the Klein Valley Wedding and conference Center outside of Wellington on Bainskloof Road. A stunning location by all accounts.
18 December 2011, usual new meeting place in Plattekloof, 07H30 meet for a 08H00 departure.
The ride will take the format of the first dual ride we did, an interesting all tar, one group ride there, and for those that want to play in the dirt on the way home, well, we will find you something, I am sure, Paarl Mountain comes to mind, otherwise there are plenty of nice good gravel roads around, not those backside tightening ones John led us down from Darling.
The venue has offered us breakfasts as follows:
- Farm style Breakfast - Crispy bacon, fried eggs, grilled tomato, sautéed mushrooms, beef chipolata, toasted ciabata and jam.
- Salmon Croissant - scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on a butter croissant.
- Festa croissant - scrambled eggs, crispy bacon and buffalo mozzarella on a butter croissant.
- Coffee and tea as usual.
All this for only R65.00 including the tip and one of the best restaurant views around.
And as this is the last breakfast run for 2011, invite your mate, even if he rides something green or something red, were not fussed by green bikes, in fact I secretly have one.
So if you are in town, please come and join us, because if you aren’t there, how can I give you your Christmas present. We should be done by 10H00, giving those that are headed to the Bike Fest plenty time, those that have to cut grass will be finished before lunch and those that want to play a little more will be home in time for lunch.
Warren
Long range weather forecast is looking good and no more Bikefest to get to afterwards.
For those that noticed, yes I was a little lost for words at the rendezvous, thus I forgot to welcome our visitors from Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg and Pretoria during the brief and I apologize for that, it was nice to have you guys join us.
It was a fairly quick ride to the venue, where some more people who were a little lost for words awaited us, namely the staff of Festa Restaurant where I had originally booked for 20-25 people (as usual). A stunning location though, with a fantastic view over the mountains.
I reckon under the circumstances and with the short warning they got, they did okay except for a miscommunication regarding the menu we were offered. Thanks to John Geldenhuys for rushing ahead of the pack and alerting the folks at Festa of the impending arrival of 42 hungry bikers.
After breakfast a few of us took some gravel roads home and it turned out to be a very nice ride indeed, I tried some roads I had not been down before which turned out to be really splendid, ending with a cool drink at the Barrel Pub above Richwood and home by lunch time.
Thanks to everyone who joined us yesterday, I hope you enjoyed the breakfast and had some fun rides home afterwards.
Well that’s it then, club rides done for 2012. May you all have a blessed Christmas and a fantastic New Year. Stay safe, keep the black stuff down and look after your selves.
I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year. The first breakfast ride is scheduled for 15 January which will also be the first club ride of 2012.
Cheers
Warren
Warren, Natalie and John for organising a nice, relaxed tar/dirt ride yesterday.
As Warren mentioned, there were quite a few new faces and a larger than usual number of road bikes. This is a very positive sign for the club. Clearly the committee's hard work during 2011 is showing dividends.
A big THANK YOU to all the committee members for making 2011 a memorable riding year. Looking forward to more of the same in 2012.
To all those who will be riding over the next few weeks, be extra vigilant, be safe and most importantly enjoy! May you all have a blessed Christmas and a fantastic New Year.
PS I hope the guys from PE managed to get to Sutherland ok. One rider on an "Eish-pee 2" with a fellow traveller on a GSA acting as the fuel bowser. Wishing you a safe trip back home.
she is, awesome that is.
she is, awesome that is.
must be, since she attracted all those bees...
This was a very enjoyable ride and the biggest one that I have ever been on. I rode across a beautiful bridge that I had never seen before. The venue was great and the food was tasty. But the company is the important thing with the food being incidental.
As usual, the company was great. I usually know most of the people on the rides I attend. On this one I knew less than half. I chatted to a lot of people who were new to me including two guys from Johannesburg.
The committee is certainly doing something right and are on a roll at the moment. Does anyone know how many rides and other events (track days, first aid, self defense etc) were organised by the committee this year. It must be a scary number.
I must echo Tony's thanks to the committee for making 2011 a very enjoyable and fruitfull year.
I must echo Tony's thanks to the committee for making 2011 a very enjoyable and fruitfull year.
Whilst I was not able to attend many rides in the second half of 2011 I would like to add my thanks to the Committee and Ride Captains for all they have done in 2011. I look forward to riding more in 2012 .....
Thank-you for allowing me to join your Sunday breakfast run. Awesome ride, and beautiful venue.
Was so great to meet so many new bikers. You guys are really so blessed being able to ride in such a beautiful part of the world. Hopefully can do it again in the near future.
If you ever come up to Pretoria please allow us to welcome you guys to our club.
I also filmed most of the ride with my DRIFT HD video camera. Let me know if you'd like copy.
