BMW MCC Cape - All day practise and fun day 02 April 2011 just outside Cape Town. (Final Arrangements added)
Trevor Versveld very kindly gave me a DVD set called Duel Sport Riding Techniques which has one disk for the basics and one disk for the advanced techniques. After watching it a few times and reading some of the current threads on training and practice, it got me thinking, just how often and also where do we get to spend a reasonable amount of time practicing these different off road techniques. Not enough I’d say.
So I have arranged with a trio of farmers in the Kalbaskraal area to be able to take groups of club members to the disused quarry on their farm where we will set up quite a few different exercises with cones across many different types of terrain so you can ride (and practice) at will and for as long as you want. You can practice each exercise until you feel you have it and then move on to the next one.
We will also set up a loop in and around the quarry to ride and perhaps you can even see if you can get a little faster during the day.
One of the farmers has also kindly agreed to put up a large gazebo for us close to the quarry for some shade and to provide ice and cool drinks and braai boerie rolls for lunch for us.
We will meet in Cape Town, ride some back roads both tar and gravel to get there (approx 40 minutes) and then spend as long as you want riding and practicing in and around the quarry.
I will ask for a small R75.00 donation from each bike, partly to cover the cost of the refreshments and partly to contribute towards keeping the farmers drinking good brandy as a way of thanking them for letting us ride on their property. This can be brought with on the day.
If you are interested in a fun day of riding and practising, please reply to this post. I can only take 15 bikes the first time to “see how it goes”.
If succesfull, more days will follow.
Sounds lekker Warren, great idea, please put my name down .

Lol, Bella, I have to agree. I led a bunch of roadies down that same road on a breakfast ride a while ago because it's beautiful countryside, they weren't impressed with the "slight" undulations in the tar
The GS managed it with aplomb though..
If there is space left please include Jean and I on this one, thanks. René
We can start a waiting list just in case anyone needs to pull out, I'll talk nicely for the extra 2 bikes so that everyone who has replied so far can attend this first day.
We will set up at least 6 to 7 exercises at a time so we won't be crowded. I will set up all the the exercises from the from the DVD's through the day, but please feel free to give input as we go along as I am not an instrutor. I am there to practise too.
Guys please, Marius will be buying cool drinks and rolls etc ahead of time for us, so if you cannot make it, please let me know immediately.
More details will follow a little closer to the time.
Marius just happens to be one of the top Flam Horse breeders in the land and he is always happy to talk about and show off his "children". He owns a set of 8 pure black stallions that have won many championships. Absolutely amazing creatures to see up close.
Warren, if I am in town I would love to attend - put me on the waiting list, please?
Thx
Du Toit
Been offline for a while so a late starter but include me.
Thanks.
Hi Warren,
If there is space Sian and myself would be keen to join in the fun.
Hi Warren
Please put me on the list.
Brent Sender
please put me on the waiting list
Please put my name on the list.
Thank you.
Hi Warren, any news for all of us "late arrivers"? Are we on the waiting list, or on top of the list for the next one?
Dankie!
Du Toit
You can take Tian off the list and replace with next in line, as some of you may know his bike went to scrapyard heaven a week ago.
Looking forward to the ride to say the least!!
With Tiaan's withdrawal dtv will take his place for this day if he is able to attend.
There were enough folks who contacted me to fill another day almost immediately and so another will take place soon. When I publish that date there will already be 10 names on the list. I must just confirm another date with the farmer.
Because it's also close to Cape Town and doesn't take hours and days of organizing, I am sure we can put together days like this quite frequently as long as there is demand.
I will post details of meeting place etc for the 2nd April by early next week.
Hi Warren, yes I am in, thank you!
Du Toit
First of all, our final list for Saturday is as follows:

11. Arno
12. Geoff K
13. Geoff E

I assume everyone on this list is still coming. If you are not able to make it, please advise me immiediatly.
We will meet at the Wimpy in Durbanville on the corner of Aurora and Burton Streets (almost right next to the Durbanville Race Course). Peter (owner) is expecting us there for a breaky at about 08H30. This will obviously be for your own account. If you don't want breakfast at the Wimpy, please advise me as I have "booked" for everyone.
After breakfast we will head off on the Vissershok road and "warmup" on three bits of gravel before getting to the farm. Details on the day will follow there.
Please don't forget your R75.00 per person which I will ask you to give me at the farm.
There will be refreshments in the form of cooldrinks, cold water etc at the gazebo and will we obviously have lunch on the farm.
If you have any questions, you can contact me either by mail at warrene@sdbsa.co.za or cell 0836030240.
Weather looks alright so far.
Looking forward to spending the day with you guys and hopefully sharpen those skills quite a bit.
Warren
2nd April then it is. Looking forward to the lekker ride and practicig those rusty skills.
Is it possible to get an indication for what time we will be finishing, because unfortunately I will need to home by 2.30. Cheers folks.
Folks can go home when ever they want, when they have had enough
, when they are tired
or when they need to
. No problem at all, it's entirely up to you.
